Frequently Asked Questions.

Cosmetic Acupuncture
What to expect.
While no two treatments are the same, an initial cosmetic acupuncture treatment typically involves a complete case history, skin assessment, body acupuncture treatment (addressing any underlying issues like stress, insomnia, etc), gua sha (facial massage) and cosmetic acupuncture treatment (commonly 10-30 facial needles). You are then left to relax for 15-30 minutes while the needles work their magic.

Best results are achieved through 5 - 10 appointments as each treatment is cumulative as it stimulates nerves and creates micro cell tissue traumas which increases circulation, lymph drainage, and nutrients to the face while boosting the production of collagen and elastin, which aids in tightening the skin.

Do I need to do anything to prepare for my Cosmetic Acupuncture treatment?
There really isn't any preparation required before your cosmetic acupuncture treatment. We do suggest that patients come in with a clean face, however, we understand that this isn't always possible, so we have cleansers at the clinic to remove your makeup before starting treatment. Comfortable clothes are recommended so you are as relaxed as possible.

Does Cosmetic Acupuncture hurt?
No, the needles used in the face are superfine, finer that half of your hair strand.
The majority of patients do not feel a thing, however it is not unusual to feel a tiny prick as the needle is first insertied into your skin. This will then disappear, and the rest of the treatment is virtually painless. Most people find the treatment very relaxing.

Are there any side effects or downtime required with Cosmetic Acupuncture?
Cosmetic acupuncture is minimally invasive and very safe.
No downtime is required after your treatment, we do however recommend being gentle with your body and taking some time to rest after your treatment, as the effect of acupuncture will still continue to work after the needles have been removed.
Side effects are rare but may include minor bruising at the site of the needle insertion (this is usually painless and will resolve within a couple of days).

When should I not have Cosmetic Acupuncture?
Cosmetic acupuncture should be used with precaution if:
-
You are pregnant
-
You have migraines or severe headaches
